Gospel Songfest performance

The time came to play the Gospel Songfest. It was late 2004 by this stage, November I think. The announcer asked us what we wanted to be introduced as. We all looked at each other and sort of nodded... "Grave Forsaken". We had been thinking about the name but I don't remember ever formally using it until that night. We played quite well at the Songfest, though we were a bit rushed. We were told we would be playing later in the evening but arrived to be told we were on in a few minutes! Wires must have been crossed because one of the organisers seemed annoyed with us for being "late". I tried to explain that I had been told we would be on later but I didn't get the impression he believed me. Unfortunately it wasn't the first or last time we would face this sort of thing through no fault of our own. In the sudden rush to get us on stage, one of the technical crew damaged my guitar amp. He was being quite rough with our gear, acting as though we should have been more organised. The silly thing was, even if we had been there an hour earlier, we couldn't have loaded our gear until the previous act had finished anyway! It was really unsettling, because we had just arrived in good spirits and I really felt like some of the crew (but not all) just wanted us on and off the stage as quickly as possible. I have no idea who those people were, but it wasn't the ideal preparation for our performance. We did OK, but it wasn't the nicest set of circumstances. The good thing was the crew all seemed to relax once we got off stage. I actually think they were worried we might get on stage and act inappropriately. Maybe they thought we looked like yobs who would get up there and swear and smash gear or something? Once we finished it was all smiles and laughs, so at least things finished better than they started. It was a strange night in many ways. We ended up getting some good feedback from the audience and it was another important stepping stone for the band.
