Getting the vocals done

We set up a microphone in one of the rooms at the church and set up the recording gear. It was quite a fun day, but I remember not really knowing what I was doing. I had never recorded vocals like that and I struggled to get the tone and feel I was looking for. I didn't really know what I was looking for to be honest. In reality, it took me a good few years to find my style vocally. Over the course of an afternoon, we managed to get all the vocals recorded. We had to pretty much mix the vocal live to the backing track as the whole thing was being recorded on a single minidisc. Not the most technical recording but at least we were trying. In some ways our lack of knowledge and experience allowed for us do try things we would never do now, and that's kind of cool. Who says everything needs to be slick and professional. Sometimes heart and good intent count for much more.
